Robert Krulwich writes a self-proclaimed "sciencey blog" on the NPR website, and I thought his story of book-sculptures, left in various locales around Edinburgh, Scotland, was pretty amazing. Actually, I think the story in its entirety is better told by the Scots themselves (with additional photos).
I'm deeply envious that anyone has the time, talent, and inclination to produce such exquisite art, made from paper no less, then cleverly revealed. I can't decide which is my favorite, perhaps the dragon, or the poet-tree, or the t-rex.
Perhaps tangentially, I am reminded of the children's book, "Miss Rumphius," by Barbara Cooney which was a favorite of mine growing up -- (quoted from the Amazon page for the book) "As a child Great-aunt Alice Rumphius resolved that when she grew up she would go to faraway places, live by the sea in her old age, and do something to make the world more beautiful--and she does all those things, the last being the most difficult of all." I don't yet know how I will make the world a more beautiful place, but I am grateful to those who find creative ways to do so everyday.
